Epic USB-stick fails: come prepared!
Going to your DJ-gig with one single USB stick, from a popular brand and without anything attached to it, is recipe for disaster! Here are our tips to save your whole performance before, during and after getting on stage!
DJ’s used to polish their vinyl and carry the crates carefully into the club. Now they pull a USB-stick from their pocket on the spot. A DJ’s collection has never been so easily damaged, stolen or lost.
1. MAKE SURE YOU CAN PLAY: BRING AT LEAST 2 STICKS
To use 2 CDJ decks from one USB stick, there USUALLY is a Link-cable. BUT, often there is NONE! It can be broken or it can be absent. In this case, bringing one USB stick would leave you watching your fellow DJ’s steal the show!
So, bring AT LEAST two or even 3 sticks. One of them can always break down on the bottom of your bag-pack or simply stop working!
2. MAKE SURE YOUR STICK IS YOURS
Many DJ’s end up buying the same sticks. These are from a few trusted brands. So, when taking over from another DJ, many get confused which stick is running when they are the same. To avoid that, make your stick recognisable as yours by connection any kind of stuff to it.
3. AVOID LOSING ALL YOUR MUSIC
It’s your whole music catalogue you bring with you, even when it’s as small as a fingertip. Make sure it doesn’t get lost in dark and messy DJ-booths. It can also be stolen easily and all your exclusive tracks fall in someone else’s hands! So, having ‘stuff’ attached to it avoids the risk of losing it. Also, mention your phone number in the top-folder, so if anyone opens your stick, they know where to find you!
